Dinner with the Australian Space Agency
Alan Duffy
An incredible evening interviewing Dr Megan Clark AC, Head of the Australian Space Agency, on how universities can support Space 2.0 and innovative technologies in Australia more generally, all as part of our Swinburne University of Technology research retreat.
The key to Dr Clark’s diverse and remarkable career? “Just do what’s in front of you, and do it well”
The role for institutions like Swinburne? “The Australian university community is absolutely vital... if we’re going to leapfrog and surprise the world”
In a large organisation how do you balance the strategic direction from above with fostering innovation from below? ‘You have to focus your resources strategically, but give time and space to allow bubbling of ideas and networking’.
Megan also spoke of day meetings with a fixed agenda as “The Cathedral” with time made for the real work of chatting to each other and brainstorming in a relaxed way before as “The Cafe”.
I really love my job.
