Pilbara Schools Tour
Alan Duffy
The Pilbara is big, isolated and gorgeous. It's also a beautiful place to view the stars from and is filled with curious school kids who attend my talks on indigenous astronomy and dark matter. I also got to explain just what it is I do as an astronomer and how they could get into science too.

The Pilbara is big, empty and gorgeous.

A great sentiment at Roeburne Indigenous School, a sentiment myself and Chief Scientist Prof Lyn Beazley share!

A great library at Roeburne Indigenous School showing some planets the kids have created over the years

Constructing a solar system ruler at Roeburne Indigenous School

This NASA rover was tested here in the Pilbara, only seems fitting that the kids at Roeburne get to see it close at hand! :)

The NASA app was the hit of the day

More NASA selfies..!

I gave a quick presentation to the class at Roeburne, catching one teacher in his first week!

One of the reasons St Luke's College is just so good at science is their Head of Science Rebecca Loftus, who took a a few minutes out of a hectic day to pose for a self with Chief Scientist Prof Lyn Beazley and myself.

I was fortunate enough to give at talk to kids from St Luke's on the possibility of working in science. They're all so talented I fully expect to see some at my uni next year!
