Go for Zero this March
Alan Duffy
The precious metals used in our smartphones were forged in dying stars and mined from the Earth at enormous cost, so we aren’t getting any more of them! Yet there are over 4 million unused or broken mobile phones gathering dust in our homes and businesses representing a huge stockpile of valuable materials and metals that can be reclaimed through recycling with MobileMuster.
As their Ambassador for the Go For Zero campaign, I want to see all Australians recycle these phones as they will have a huge environmental impact. It prevents the need for 8274 tonnes of mineral resources to be mined (over 1400 elephants worth) preventing CO2 emissions from being put into the atmosphere equivalent to planting 42,000 trees! Am I being ambitious? When we asked last year we got 800,000 phones sent in, equivalent to a blue whale’s worth.
It’s so easy to recycle, with thousands of dropoff sites - just head to the MobileMuster website and find one near you - or order a prepaid satchel to your address and just drop the phone in. You can track its journey, and see when it lands in the recycling centre where the memory chips are immediately broken ahead of shredding giving complete confidence that data won’t be at risk. You can rest easy knowing you’ve helped make the Earth a cleaner, healthier place with these resources of your broken phone recycled, all for free and super easily.
